She has been in the lifestyle/media industry for over 10 years and her work has also been featured on international covers like Elle France and Vanity Fair Mexico. At the end of last year, I was talking to my brother about how one of the most frustrating things about having endometriosis is fatigue. Something I experience the week before and during my period.
Layer that with usual life and work stress, and by the afternoon, my energy levels can sometimes feel pretty depleted.
It was off the back of that conversation that my brother brought up creatine - something he’d been looking into buying for its potential health benefits not just for himself but for our parents, too.
Of course, my iPhone was listening and shortly after, my algorithm served me this video from Neurophysiologist, Louisa Nicola:
So when I saw The Beauty Chef had released a drinkable powder that not only includes creatine but also has added supporting ingredients to help with energy levels and cognitive function, I immediately added it to my staff order.
It is something I genuinely spent my money on because of the chat I had with my brother about creatine and its wellness benefits.
Widely known as an ingredient that boosts physical and muscle performance, creatine is no longer just reserved for gym bros.
Creatine is increasingly being recognised as a dual-action supplement - supporting both physical performance and cognitive function.
So if, like me, you find your mind is lagging by 2PM, you might want to add this to your daily routine, stat.
Let’s find out more.
Disclaimer: If you’re considering adding a creatine supplement to your routine, it’s always best to consult your doctor or a qualified healthcare professional first. Like all supplements, it may not be suitable for everyone.
This is purely my personal experience and reflects my own choice to incorporate a supplement like this into my routine based on my individual needs.

What is Creatine?

Creatine is widely known as a natural supplement often used to support athletic performance and is actually a natural compound our body makes from amino acids.
You can also obtain smaller amounts from foods like red meat and fish.
In other words, while it’s popular in supplement form, creatine itself isn’t foreign to the body, it’s something we already make and use.
However, it can also help boost brain function!

Creatine Benefits

In this Body + Soul article, sports scientist Dr Dan Plews says, “For people who don’t train intensely, the benefits may show up in different ways –things like reducing general fatigue, supporting cognitive function such as memory and processing speed and even helping maintain muscle mass as we age.”
Insights shared by Dr Plews in the article also suggest creatine could also play a meaningful role in cognitive function by helping to improve attention and sustain mental stamina.
Dr Plews mentioned in the article that she'd seen the effects first-hand, saying, "I had been really struggling with focus, and within a few weeks I was noticing how an hour would just fly by as I was deep in work,” she says.
Her experience aligns with emerging studies suggesting creatine supplementation may support muscle strength, exercise performance and even aspects of brain function in pre-menopausal women.

My The Beauty Chef Body Electric™ + Creatine Review and First Impressions

The main reason I was personally interested in creatine and what ultimately prompted me to add The Beauty Chef Body Electric to cart, was the growing evidence linking it to mood support, reducing fatigue and improving focus.
I usually feel the first hit of fatigue or energy dip around 2:30-3 which is usually when I’ll have a glass of coconut water or a tea for a quick pick-me-up.
I didn't do either of those things and instead swapped out with the Body Electric to see if it would really work.
Filling up just under half of my emotional support water bottle, I give it a little shake and then, as directed, sip through it pretty quickly.
I also have to give a mention to the taste.
For some reason, when I first heard the word "creatine", my mind immediately associated that with something that would taste medicinal. I’m still yet to fully dip my toes into the creatine powder world; however, this Beauty Chef creatine and hydration powder supplement genuinely tastes like a really nice berry drink I would order at a cafe or have as a refreshing afternoon drink.
And I have to say, I did notice and feel like my attention and focus were a little sharper in the afternoon!

Final Verdict...

After drinking it, the effect isn’t quite the same as my morning coffee, but I'm actually OK with that because at 3pm, I’m trying to avoid another hit of caffeine, and this feels like the perfect alternative.
It gives me just enough of a gentle boost to get through the last few hours of the workday, and the added hydration is a welcome bonus.
I noticed a slight improvement in my concentration and less of that mid-afternoon slump.
