Attention The Ordinary fans! Especially those with oilier or combo skin, we have some news that we think will very much interest you…
The Ordinary’s O. Lab. have just released their sixth product -  a new, lightweight gel moisturiser to complete the stable of targeted Natural Moisturising Factors moisturisers for each skin type.
(ICYMI - The Ordinary’s O. Lab. have created six new products as part of their Prep, Treat and Seal routine targeted to different skin types and concerns).
If you have oily and/or combo skin that cowers at the thought of heavier creams and you’re looking for a light, hydrating moisturiser under $30, the scientists at The Ordinary have heard your calls, and they’ve delivered.
Meet, Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan.
Made with oily and combo skins in mind, (as opposed to The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA - 30ml and The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides - 100ml that have drier skins in mind) this moisturiser's job is to keep your face hydrated all day long and to keep your barrier happy.
If you like the sound of this, we’d  hurry and add this to your cart asap because it’s available on Adore Beauty exclusively for four weeks (or while stocks last and that might not be very long, so I’d be fast).
Let’s find out a little more…

Ok but What Is Beta Glucan?

If you’re not actually a cosmetic chemist, you may be wondering what the heck beta glucan actually is and why you should be slathering this ingredient on your face.
Put simply, beta glucan is a hydrating ingredient (like hyaluronic acid) that is also moisturising and can help with redness, too.
For a further breakdown and benefits of beta glucan, the experts at The Ordinary explain that beta glucans are sugar molecules found in grains, bacteria, yeasts, and fungi.
When relating to mushrooms, beta glucans are found primarily within the cell walls.
The Ordinary sources its beta glucan from Reishi mushrooms which have recently grown in popularity due to the over 400 active biomolecules inside which  have been said to have have a wide range of benefits including antioxidant support to protect against external stressors.
The beta glucan within The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan is an effective humectant which helps to retain moisture as well as offer immediate hydration and barrier support.

What Is The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan?

The Ordinary’s Chief Scientific Officer, Prudvi Mohan Kaka (he’s the scientist who is responsible for formulating and creating a lot of your favourite The Ordinary products), told us that NMF + Beta Glucan is light but still very "effective at moisturising.”
He says that while NMF + Beta Glucan can be used by all skin types, the consistency or the “body of the formula” is best suited to those with oilier skin as it’s so lightweight.
NMF + Beta Glucan fast facts:
  • An oil-free moisturiser for all skin types but made with oily and combo skin in mind (think of it as a gel-like version of Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides for those who like a lighter moisturiser).
  • Works to leave skin feeling strong, supple and smooth and hydrated all day.
  • Key ingredients in NMF + Beta Glucan are amino acids, ceramides and of course, beta glucan.
  • Is non-comedogenic and artificial fragrance and alcohol-free.
  • Is also vegan and cruelty-free.

How to use NMF + Beta Glucan.

In the morning, NMF + Beta Glucan can be used before your SPF and makeup.
In the evening, it can be used as the last step of your routine after you've applied your targeted serums and active treatments.

My The Ordinary NMF + Beta Glucan Review.

My oily t-zone and combo skin are very happy The Ordinary has made one of the best cheap moisturisers for oily skin.
Something many The Ordinary fans have been waiting for.
One of this gel moisturiser’s biggest points of difference in my opinion, is that it feels refreshing on the skin rather than sticky, wet or tacky like some other gel moisturisers I’ve tried.
The first time I used it was right after my shower when my skin was still a little damp and steamy. It felt so silky to apply and absorbed quite quickly as well.
I then popped it on again the next morning and kept touching my face all day to make sure it was still feeling hydrated…
I can happily report my cheeks still felt soft and didn’t feel stripped or dry like they usually do in the cold air.
On the third day of use, I layered The Ordinary’s Beta Glucan moisturiser under my makeup.
I wanted to put the consistency to the ‘no pilling under makeup’ test and it passed with flying colours.
Just an even application. Another win!
All in all my oily t-zone and combo face is very happy this lightweight, hydrating gel moistursier that sits under a $22 price point exists.

Final Verdict...

Even though I don't have super dry skin, I lurrveed NMF + PhytoCeramides which I still think I’ll use in winter when I need an extra dose of nourishment, but the Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan is what I’ll be subbing in my summer routine when I don't want to put anything thick on my skin.
Oily and combo skin pals, I reckon this is going to be your new favourite everyday moisturiser.
