I’m the go-to guide gal and routine queen here at Adore Beauty. I have a background in media and communications, and over 3 years experience in the beauty industry. When I’m not answering all of your burning questions, you can find me spruiking underrated products to my co-workers and trying to figure out what our best bloody mascara is.

There are many causes of hyperpigmentation, but ultimately one result: an overproduction of melanin (aka. the pigment which adds colour to skin).
In other words, hyperpigmentation results in patchy dark spots on the skin, which can be difficult to lift unless you have the right skin care products for pigmentation.
.The most common causes for pigmentation include acne, sun exposure and hormonal changes, all of which you know are fairly common.
So, we’ve put together a list of our go-to Skinstitut products to reduce pigmentation on the face.
From a top exfoliating scrub to our favourite Skinstitut sunscreen, these are the products for skin pigmentation we think deserve a spot in your routine.

1. A Refreshing Cleanser for Hyperpigmentation

What it is: Skinstitut L-Lactic Cleanser 200mL is a hydrating lactic acid cleanser that contains vitamin B & E to strengthen the skin, while providing gentle exfoliation.
Why it’s so good: A good cleanser for pigmentation will always contain some form of exfoliation.
The gentle AHA’s in this pigmentation cleanser work brilliantly to lift pigmentation and increase cell turnover.
It’s also a refreshing, decongesting gel formula that will help prevent further breakouts.

2. The Best Product for Pigmentation is an SPF

What it is: Skinstitut Age Defence SPF50+ is a broad spectrum physical and chemical sunscreen with SPF50+ protection.
Why it’s so good: A high protection SPF is essential for preventing and minimising further pigmentation, particularly if its pigmentation is caused by sun damage in the first place.
Plus, most products used to reduce pigmentation make the skin extra sun sensitive, so a really good SPF50+ sunscreen is an absolute must.
But remember! SPF is only one part of sun protection! Always seek shade, and wear sunnies, a hat and protective clothing. Use sufficient sunscreen for all unprotected areas and reapply sunscreen as directed. Always read the label.

3. Slow Down Melanin Production

What it is: Skinstitut Even Blend Serum is an active, oil free complex that helps to lift pigmentation by promoting cell turnover.
It contains 4% glycolic acid (exfoliating), witch hazel (toning) and daisy flower (anti-inflammatory pigment inhibitor).
Why it’s so good: This product is specially formulated for pigmentation and works brilliantly to tackle dark marks and skin texture.
If we were to recommend 1 product off this list, this serum would be it.

4. Try a Mist That Is Rich in Vitamin B3

What it is: Skinstitut Multi-Active Mist 100mL is an active mist that provides antioxidant protection with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, liquorice root and ginseng.
Why it’s so good: This hydrating spray contains vitamin B3 which works to slow down melanin deposits into localised areas of the skin.
Bonus points for the fact that it leaves the skin with a radiant glow.

5. Add Antioxidants That Lift and Brighten

What it is: Skinstitut Vitamin C 100% is a 100% stable vitamin C powder that can be mixed in with your serum or moisturiser to heal, protect and brighten the skin.
Why it’s so good: Vitamin C is one of the best ingredients for lifting pigmentation and providing antioxidant protection to minimise further damage.
This particular formula works well to brighten the complexion and also slow down melanin production in the skin.
