The past few months have taught me that my two great loves in life are beauty and food.
Even more recently, I’ve discovered I love it when the two intersect. Case in point: my last article for Adore Beauty was about
my obsession with mushroom hair care.
Now, I’ve moved onto fruit. Namely, fruit skin care, a sub section of beauty I am (unsurprisingly) infatuated with.
Fruit in skin care is by no means a new concept, but it’s definitely gained traction recently thanks to the clean beauty movement and higher demand for natural plant-based ingredients, even in cosmeceutical skin care.
Ingredients like fruit enzymes that make great exfoliants, nourishing fruit oils and fruit extracts that double as top sources of antioxidants.
Short of smashing an avo on your face (I prefer mine on sourdough with a drizzle of chilli oil, but you do you!), using products formulated with these fruit ingredients is a recipe for glowy skin.
Think brighter skin tone, less congestion, reduced signs of ageing and increased environmental protection. FYI see what happened when we actually put avo to the test in this DIY face masks video below!
Basically, fruit can do a lot of things for our health, both internally and topically.
But in the context of a glowing complexion, putting fruit skincare products on your face is a much easier way to get the required two servings a day.
From a berry antioxidant serum to a mango barrier repair mask, I put my face on the line to road-test and review four new(ish) fruity beauty launches. Here's the juicy info you need to know.
1. Osmosis Skincare Tropical Mango Barrier Repair Mask.

OK first things first. This
Osmosis Skincare Tropical Mango Barrier Repair Mask 30ml actually smells and looks like mango ice cream. Yum, but sadly, this is not for consumption.
As the name suggests, it’s loaded with mango seed butter, but also cucumber extract, avocado oil and jojoba for a lipid-rich mask that works miracles on compromised, irritated or sensitised skin types.
Working in this industry means I often go a little too hard on the actives (whoops), but low and behold, this treatment is a great way to dial back on some of the damage.
It’s rich, nourishing and leaves skin feeling soft and comfortable. I also loved the way it took away the redness around my nose and chin. I’ll certainly call on this next time my skin feels a little stripped.
2. Weleda Pomegranate Firming Facial Oil.

Weleda Skin Food - 75ml is iconic in the world of skin care (and a personal favourite of mine) so I was VERY excited to try the brand's newest launch.
The texture of the
Weleda Pomegranate Firming Facial Oil 30ml is beautiful – really light, nourishing and quickly absorbed.
It’s a blend of eight organic plant oils, including pomegranate for added antioxidant benefits (aka protection from external aggressors like pollution). I used it a few times with my gua sha and the results were amazing. Think soft, radiant, moisturised skin.
I think it's worth mentioning the light texture of this oil was totally fine for my combination/breakout-prone skin type, too.
3. Cosmedix Pure Enzymes Cranberry Exfoliating.

I am weirdly obsessed with fruit-based enzyme exfoliants (like the
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant with papaya, a product I’ve been using for over five years).
The
Cosmedix Pure Enzymes Cranberry Exfoliating Mask uses cranberry enzymes to exfoliate the skin’s surface. There’s lactic and gluconic acid in there as well to resurface while topping up hydration levels.
I used this as a leave-on treatment at night and my goodness did it tingle. But after three minutes (you can wear for up to 10 but three felt right for me), I rinsed it off and was greeted with skin that looked clear and felt silky soft. The skin around my nose was smoother as well, and my blackheads looked way less noticeable.
Enzyme exfoliants usually suit skincare newbies and those with more sensitive skin types, but in my opinion, this product is pretty intense (in a good way, if you have robust skin). If you’re prone to flaking, congestion or dullness, keep this on hand for a bi-monthly refresh.
Now, if you'll excuse me... gotta go get myself a Weis Bar.
