Finding the perfect everyday, natural-looking foundation can be hard.
It can be even trickier when you’re on the hunt for the perfect shade match for your olive skin tone.
For me, the dream foundation needs to mask imperfections, cover dark spots and diffuse ashiness - all without looking cakey (I know, big ask).
If I find one that does all of the above while making my skin look luminous and radiant like I just got off the plane from the South of France rather than my car with frozen windows in Melbourne, you best believe I’m never letting her go.
Along with a man who doesn’t work in finance, have blue eyes or a trust fund (you get the drift) this is something I’m always searching for.
So when I found out one of my favourite foundations was launching a more lightweight and glow-giving version (the name literally has ‘glow’ in it) my credit card and I were poised and ready from the comfort of my laptop and my couch.
But did it live up to the hype? Is the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD SKIN Hydraglow Foundation actually good?
I’m sure you’ve already taken an educated guess, but keep scrolling to find out more and see the proof!
What is the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD SKIN Hydraglow Foundation.

Delivers a radiant and luminous finish.

Difference Between Original MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin and HD Skin Hydraglow.

If you want to know why I love the OG MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin foundation and see visual proof that it really is like a "filter in a bottle", you can
read my full review here, otherwise here's the main differences between the OG and the new Hydraglow:
HD Skin Hydraglow:
Finish: Glowy.
Shades: 38.
Ideal for: Dry and normal skin and is made of 86% skincare ingredients.
Original MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin foundation:
Finish: Semi-matte.
Shades: 40.
Ideal for: Normal and combo skin.
Same family, slightly different vibes (just like us!).
How I would think of it (and use them both this way) is:
Hydraglow - my daywear foundation, light coverage and will be my go-to in summer.
Original MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin - my eveningwear foundation or special events where I want heavier coverage and an airbrushed finish over a natural-looking finish.
My MAKE UP FOR EVER HD SKIN Hydraglow Foundation review:
I intentionally timed my purchase of this foundation
with my trip to Japan. I added the travel-sized one to cart to see if I actually liked it.
With warmer weather on the horizon, I wanted something lighter in feel and coverage, akin to a serum foundation or skin tint.
One that promised to stay put so I wouldn’t have to worry about sweat causing it to move or slide off throughout the day.
And it passed with flying colours!
Here’s how it looked in the morning when I first applied it, and then after eight hours outside (walking, sweating, drinking, eating):

While my concealer had slightly faded my base and foundation was not only still on, my face was still looking glowy!
It did fade a teeny bit as expected, but overall, it went the distance.
The texture feels so soft to apply and blends almost instantly into the face leaving the same satin finish as the original but less fuller coverage.
Biggest tick for me though was the shade match. It’s an almost-exact match of my skin tone and creates a uniform complexion evening out my my uneven tones and ashiness without looking unnatural.
Though it’s more "ideal" for drier skins, my combo and oily t-zone face loved it (proving you should buy for your skin type but you don't HAVE to - we all like what we like!).
Ok sure it looks great in the warmer weather but how does it fare in winter when my dull, ashy skin is desperate for glow?
Like I said, I've been wearing it NON-STOP, here's how it looked on my face the other day while indoors (read: sh*t lighting):

Final Verdict:
The fact that I’ve been wearing this foundation non-stop speaks volumes.
It still lets my skin breathe and shine though while lightly blurring imperfections rather than completely masking them.
Thank you for continuing to make some of the best foundation products MAKE UP FOR EVER.
Love one of your biggest fans,
Sadaf xoxo.
