I’m going to be real with you and say, when I hear the term “matte foundation”, I tend to cringe a little.
Mainly because it doesn't always work well on my particular skin type and I have flashbacks to early '90s heavy, cakey and over-powdery matte skin.
In saying that, and having worked in the industry for numerous years, I have tried at least 5-6 options recently and I've been impressed with how they wear and feel on the skin.
And let's not forgot how flawless a matte skin can look!
So when the Huda Beauty #Fauxfilter foundation and concealer arrived at Adore Beauty, I was more than ready to give it a try, especially as the word “luminous'' is in the title! (and you all know how much I love
GlowWish Tint).
As the title suggests, #Fauxfilter is a luminous matte foundation.
Too good to be true, right?
Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not a glowy radiant foundation, but the technology of the translucent spherical powders adds to the coverage and helps the skin look silky and healthy.

How To Apply Huda Beauty #FauxFilter.
I was a little nervous with my first application of this foundation.
Firstly, it's matte, and secondly, it's full coverage, two features I’m just not used to on my skin.
For my skin prep, I reeeeally hydrated my skin with serums, moisturiser and of course my SPF.
If your skin sits more on the normal/oily side, then prep your skin as normal, and you may not need a primer.
To create a medium coverage, I started with one pump of foundation (I wear shade 350 G Dulce De Lece) on a slightly damp beauty sponge.
I began to press it into my skin, starting from the centre of my face, blending outwards in a stippling motion.
This way, you can create fuller coverage towards the centre of your face and gently buff out the rest around your jawline.
For a full-coverage look, start with 2 pumps on the sponge, you can always add more until you’ve achieved your perfect base.
This Huda Beauty foundation turned matte quite quickly, so I added a drop of water to my beauty sponge and gently pressed it on my skin.
This helped to reduce the instant matte look and created a flawless finish.
If your skin is on the oilier side, you can add a translucent powder on top to set the foundation/concealer after your application, helping to create an all-day matte look.
I could have stopped at this point as I was very happy with the coverage, however, I was loving this whole #FauxFilter vibe and was very keen to now try the #Fauxfilter Luminous Matte Liquid Concealer (said the girl who doesn't wear heavy foundations!).
I applied the shade 4.5 Granola (slightly lighter than my foundation) under my eyes, on my cheekbones and down the centre of my nose to subtly highlight and conceal.
This time I pressed it in with my ring finger and found the warmth from my fingertip really help to melt and seamlessly blend the product into my skin.
The concealer is a buildable coverage, so great for a quick skin fix/spot conceal or if you're going full glam…
This concealer will do it all!
My Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Review.
I found the packaging of the foundation user friendly. It comes in a square shaped plastic bottle, with a pump dispenser.
The pump makes it easy to control your application amount. It’s a thick/non-runny liquid with no detectable scent to it.
As soon as I applied the foundation, I felt my skin looked dry, which is why I pressed the damp blending sponge back over my skin and didn't use a powder at all.
I wore this on a 12-hr day, from running errands to glamming up clients all afternoon.
(My before pic was taken at 7am and my after pic was taken at 7pm.)

There was some shine on my skin by the end of the day.
In hindsight, I did over-hydrate my skin, thinking a matte finish wouldn’t work for me… noted!
For me, the long-wear claim lived up to the hype and my skin didn't feel heavy throughout the day.
The concealer really blew me away and I’ve been wearing this daily just under my eyes.
I find it blends seamlessly into the skin without needing to add foundation.
This is my new fave concealer, it doesn't crease!
Final Verdict…

Huda Beauty's #FauxFilter Luminous Range was better than I expected.
Most of you know I'm a huge fan of the
Huda Beauty GloWish Multi Dew Skin Tint which is the opposite of this, however, having now tried and tested the #FauxFilter range, I’m very happy that there is a full coverage, luminous matte alternative out there.
The Huda foundation is great for anyone looking for a long-wearing and buildable silky matte coverage.
It’s ideal for normal to oily skin types, however I think you can adjust your skincare and priming routine if your skin leans towards the drier side.
The concealer is the ultimate all-rounder. It is definitely great for all skin types and you can really control the coverage you want.
I loved that it blends into the skin so well that it can be worn on its own.
In conclusion, this range will give you #FauxFlawless results.
