Our Verdict on the DIOR Backstage Foundation Makeup Artists Are Obsessed With

There are some foundations that take the world by storm and you just can’t help but want to give them a try.
DIOR Backstage Face & Body Foundation was definitely on my hit list around 2 years ago.
I’d heard other makeup artists rave about it and wanted to know what all the fuss was about.
Like any financially-savvy makeup artist, I was skeptical before adding it to my kit.
Integrating a new foundation into my kit means purchasing around 5-6 shades, which can be costly, however, I decided to give DIOR Backstage Face & Body Foundation a whirl and go from there.
Of course, after purchasing one bottle and trying it extensively on some regular clients, the feedback was all the same.
People loved how their complexion was looking, and how the foundation felt on their skin, so the next week, I purchased a couple of bottles for my pro kit and have never looked back!
But is this TikTok-famous DIOR makeup product worth the hype? Let's find out...
What Is DIOR Backstage Foundation?
DIOR Backstage Face & Body Foundation is an extremely customisable foundation.
It has been tried and tested by DIOR makeup artists to deliver a truly unique formula that allows the user to decide their ideal finish and coverage based on their individual preferences.
Here’s what the foundation promises to deliver:
- Ultra buildable coverage with customisable intensity that can deliver a natural sheer glow, all the way through to a flawless high-coverage result.
- Glowing second-skin finish is perfect for real life events, as well as on-camera use.

How to Apply DIOR Backstage Foundation.

Here are my makeup artist pro application tips.
First, let's discuss skin prep.
As this foundation has an extremely customisable formula, skin prep is a step you should NOT skip if you’re using this foundation.
If you have oily skin and prefer a matte finish, be sure to apply a mattifying primer underneath the foundation and then go in with some setting powder around oily areas of the face to activate the matte side of the foundation.
If you have dry/normal skin and love a dewy/glowy finish, prep your skin with a hydrating primer.
This will allow the foundation to work in tandem with your skincare to deliver a luminous skin-like finish.
OK, now onto actual application methods:
1. Foundation brushes.
If brushes are your weapon of choice, then you will be pleased to know that you can get an amazing application this way.
Brushes give the added bonus of a diffused finish, and extra control over the amount of product being applied and the way the product can be buffed into the skin.
I’ve applied DIOR Backstage Face & Body using both a traditional foundation brush like DIOR Backstage Light Coverage Fluid Foundation Brush N11 as well as a kabuki brush.

2. Fingers.
An oldie but a goodie. If this is your vibe, you can go in and blend the DIOR Backstage Face & Body Foundation in with your fingers.
The warmth from your fingers will help melt the product onto your skin and the fluid-like texture lends itself well to an application method like this.
Be sure to use tapping motions on areas where you want more coverage and long strokes where you want a lighter coverage.
Also, make sure you wash your hands before using this method.
3. Sponge or Beauty Blender.
If you can’t imagine applying a foundation with anything other than a beauty sponge, that is totally fine!
Something like the DIOR Backstage Blender Sponge will work brilliantly with the DIOR Backstage Face & Body formula.
The moisture from the damp beauty sponge will work well with the DIOR Backstage Face & Body Foundation to deliver a luminous hydrated glow to the skin.
The only thing to take note of when using this method is that beauty sponges can sometimes soak up some of the product applied as we pounce away, which could mean product wastage over time.
DIOR Backstage Foundation Review.
Although I’ve had this foundation in my kit for years, I’ve only used DIOR Backstage Face & Body Foundation on myself a handful of times.
When I got the opportunity to properly road-test not only the DIOR foundation, but the matching concealer too, I was excited!
Here are some quick facts about the foundation and concealer based on my personal experience:
- Scent: Inoffensive fresh sweet scent. I couldn’t smell it on my skin after I’d applied it and quite liked the scent when I first opened the bottle.
- Packaging: In true DIOR fashion, the packaging is extremely chic. Both the foundation and concealer come in a see-through matte velvet finish bottle with a matte silver DIOR printed on the side, along with an embossed silver cap. Looks beautiful, but is also practical because the soft touch bottle won’t shatter if you drop it.
- Consistency: Both offer a fluid formula. The concealer is slightly creamier than the fluid foundation as it offers higher coverage.
- Finish: The foundation has a natural skin-like finish that can be customised based on your individual skin prep. The concealer has a radiant soft matte finish.
- Pro tip: Whilst DIOR Backstage Face & Body Foundation can be used on its own, it also works exceptionally well when mixed in with another foundation. This is a technique I use on many of my clients that allows me to achieve a natural skin-like glow.
As for what they're like in real life, I love how both of these products wore throughout the day.
The foundation felt extremely light on the skin and I didn’t experience any separation or patchiness, rather just a nice veil over the skin that enhanced my natural complexion.
The concealer did a good job at concealing darkness underneath my eyes whilst adding brightness to the area.

Final Verdict...
I really cannot fault this DIOR foundation and concealer.
From their luxe yet user-friendly packaging, to the vast shade ranges available and the unique customisable experience, I am definitely a true DIOR Backstage Foundation and Backstage Concealer advocate.
Whilst the price point is on the higher end, you are paying for a truly unique, hardworking formula that has been designed and tested by industry professionals.
If anyone is looking for a foundation that can give you multiple different finishes and coverage intensities based on individual preference, this should be moved to #1 on your to-try list!
