In partnership with ROH.
“Scalp care” seems to be all the beauty buzz right now.
From slathering hair oil over the scalp to lock in moisture overnight, aka “hair slugging,” to visiting bougie Japanese scalp spas that use movement and acupressure to stimulate blood flow (which is firmly at the top of my beauty bucket list), as people go to great lengths to investigate what’s going on up there.
So why the sudden interest in the skin above our face? Well, there’s your answer: it’s skin, so it stands to reason that it should be cared for too, especially amid the recent “skinification” of hair care, where routines are built around what your tresses actually need rather than what simply sounds good or what your bestie won’t stop raving about.
A key part of scalp care is the microbiome, and when that balance is disrupted, issues like flaking, dryness, and irritation can start creeping in, which is where ROH comes in.

What Is ROH?

adore beauty article image
ROH is the latest development from our friends at NAK, another professional salon haircare brand to have on your radar (if they aren’t already).
Leveraging their 20 years of industry expertise, ROH makes your scalp microbiome their business, with their products focused on nurturing, protecting and repairing it to give your hair the best chance at health.
Whether seeking to soothe an irritated scalp, reduce flaking or add shine and softness, ROH's vegan, active-packed formulas can help you get to the root of any scalp problem. And then fix it.
With the formalities out of the way, can we please talk about how freaking chic their packaging is?! If this were a dating app, you best believe I’m swiping right.
Here are some other fast facts about ROH:
  • Solution-focused ranges backed by NAK's 20 years of research and expertise.
  • Most products are anchored by The Elixir, an ingredient trio that infuses amino acids and key actives at the roots.
  • Formulated with bioactive compounds extracted from plants chosen specifically to work in tandem with The Elixir to deliver benefits.
  • Includes hair goal-specific shampoo and conditioner duos, plus additional scalp-enhancing products anyone can weave into their routine.
My fellow AB staffers and I have been road-testing ROH for the last couple of weeks, tailoring our haircare routine to the ranges and products most suited to our hair goals.
Below, you’ll find our honest thoughts on ROH and if they deliver on their promise of a ‘great scalp day’.
I’ll go first.

My hair has come a long way from its former bond-broken, frail self, however, hydration and volume will always remain top priorities when it comes to my routine.
I was fortunate enough to get my hands on ROH’s entire range. Per the brand’s suggestion, I’ve been switching between their ‘Ultimate Hydration’ and ‘Clarify and Plump’ routines, depending on my hair's needs (this method is often referred to as 'hair cycling').
For example, the latter on product-heavy days, the former when it’s dry and frizzy.
My overall takeaway? Both routines do a decent job of making my hair look and feel pretty darn good!
Super lightweight, soft and shiny, what more could a gal ask for?
Even my hairdresser noted my scalp’s health when I was in last week for a cherry cola colour top-up.
I like how straightforward the ROH routines are, and that they champion plant-powered products.
The steps are laid out simply and there are even reminders on the packaging of what’s next just in case you find yourself dazed and confused mid-shower.
There’s no overwhelming fragrance either, but rather a subtle botanical aroma that doesn’t linger for long which I'm sure is good news to the scent-adverse.
Of the slew of scalp-enhancing products I’ve tried, here are my top three and why.

  • Provides a deep clean to remove build-up and impurities.
  • Helps rejuvenate and restore vitality for a healthier scalp.
  • Formulated with sea salt, fermented seascalp, walnut seed and The Elixir.
  • Provides a solid, shampoo-like lather that leaves your hair feeling and looking squeaky clean.
  • Works great as the first step in your hair care routine (my preference) but can also be used following your shampoo/conditioner for a deeper cleanse.

  • Boosts and restores hydration.
  • Strengthens strands from the inside out.
  • Lightweight consistency that doesn’t weigh hair down.
  • Softens and detangles, leaving hair silky smooth and more manageable.
  • Enriched with coconut extract, biotin, burdock root extract, and The Elixir for optimal care.
  • Pairs perfectly with the ROH Clarify Scalp Scrub and works well to slick hair back into a bun.

  • Smooths and protects hair from environmental stressors.
  • Infuses hair with nutrients for a healthy, glossy, frizz-free finish.
  • Suitable for all scalp and hair types, especially frizz-prone hair.
  • Infused with Jojoba oil, sweet almond oil and camellia oil to nourish and strengthen.
  • Lightweight and luxurious, and doesn’t make my fine hair look or feel greasy or heavy.
Honourable mentions:
  • NAK Hair ROH Daily Hair Tonic 150ml – it’s too soon to report on the results of this revitalising spray, but its promise of long, healthy hair is too enticing to not include.
  • NAK Hair ROH Scalp Renew Serum 50ml – I’ll be revisiting this one on days my scalp is irritated or sensitive, but its soothing formula and targeted tip are worth a mention.

"I want to preface this by saying, I am SO happy that so many new hair care brands are keeping our scalps in mind when creating products.
To be completely honest I truly wasn’t expecting much from the three products, although I was impressed by their 20 years of research.
Well, I got quite the pleasant shock after using the shampoo and conditioner.
After blow-drying then styling my hair, that’s when I noticed a difference.
My waves styled and fell so nicely, and I knew it was the shampoo and conditioner. It made my hair feel nicer too and I honestly loved them after just one wash. That's saying a lot.
I also received a compliment from a colleague on our hair team when I went into the office last week. She asked me what hair products I'm currently using and I told her I had just washed my hair with ROH.
No word of a lie, I think I will actually repurchase this shampoo and conditioner duo again with with my own money - that's how much I rate it and after hearing how much the girls love the mask, might add that to cart too.
The hair oil was lovely and lightweight, but that's one that might not be game enough for my hectic frizz and coarse hair."

In terms of the ROH Scalp Renew Serum, I’m a chronic oily-haired victim so the idea of applying a serum to my scalp felt more than wrong.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the serum did not leave any residue and after a few weeks, I have found this product has significantly reduced my winter flaky scalp!
The Purify & Plump Shampoo was amazing at giving my scalp a proper cleanse and I could literally feel the matching conditioner plumping my hair as I was applying it, love that."

My scalp and I haven’t always been best friends—let’s just say it’s been quite a journey.
When these beautifully packaged, scalp-first products landed on my desk, I was instantly intrigued.
After using these scalp microbiome-focused products for a few weeks, I feel like a new woman.
My favourites from the range are the ROH Clarify Scalp Scrub, paired with the Scalp Scrub Brush—perfect for hitting the reset button on my scalp health.
And I can't forget to mention the Drench Hair Masque. Deeply hydrating and packed with nourishing actives, it provides the ultimate TLC for your hair.
These will be staying at home with me."
