There are a few products almost every beauty lover has in their kit: lip balm, SPF, a good mascara, and Moroccanoil.
The holy grail of hair care,
Moroccanoil has been rescuing, taming, and giving life to hair for over a decade. (It even helped transform this beauty writer's former scalp bleach from lacklustre to luxe.)
So when I heard they were bringing out a
new titanium flat iron, I was curious to see if it would live up to Moroccanoil's cult status.
Keeping in mind that my hair is on the finer size and has a tendency to frizz (love that for me), I decided to try it alongside the
MOROCCANOIL Perfect Defence 225ml - a MUST-have for anybody using heated hair tools. (Seriously though,
heat protectors are the real deal!)
But before I dive into my thoughts and feelings, let’s quickly recap the story of Moroccanoil.
What Is Moroccanoil?
Moroccanoil is an award-winning hair and body care brand based in New York.
Co-founder Carmen Tal started Moroccanoil back in 2008 after experiencing a restorative hair oil treatment that completely resurrected her colour-damaged hair.
Today, the Mediterranean-inspired brand is regarded as one of the most iconic beauty brands in the world.
Their revolutionary argan oil-infused hair and body care collection includes their signature hair treatment, the
MOROCCANOIL Original Oil Treatment 100ml, as well as shampoo and conditioner, masks, styling, finishing, brushes, and now, hot tools.
What Is the New Moroccanoil Titanium Flat Iron?

As its name suggests, the
MOROCCANOIL Titanium Flat Iron is a hot styling tool used to create a range of salon-quality looks, from sleek straight hair to soft waves and curls.
Key features of the Moroccanoil flat iron:
Suitable for all hair types and textures.
Made in Moroccanoil's signature mermaid blue.
Comes with a heat-resistant pouch for safe heating and quick and easy storage.
Includes a 4 ft salon-length swivel cord so you can maneuver it and style with ease.
Has a 1-hour automatic shutoff for those times you can’t remember if you turned your straightener off (guilty).
Features a digital display of up to 232 degrees Celsius (37-47 degrees higher on average than other best-selling hot tools).
Designed with a soft-touch ergonomic grip and beveled edges that tilt at different angles without snagging or tangling hair.
Made with extra-long, 4-inch (roughly 10cm) floating titanium plates that promise to heat up in less than 60 seconds - a bonus for thick and curly hair.
How to Use the Moroccanoil Titanium Flat Iron.
If you’ve ever straightened your hair before, the process is fairly simple.
Before you do anything though, we recommended prepping your hair with a nourishing shampoo and conditioner or hair mask to ensure it remains hydrated and happy!
From there, follow the below:
1. Gently blow dry hair and apply a heat protector (I used the
MOROCCANOIL Perfect Defence 225ml). You can also apply a smoothing serum for thicker hair.
2. Separate hair into sections and secure it with hair ties or clips - this just makes life easier.
3. Set your temperature. Most experts agree that the ideal range is between 120-190 degrees Celsius, but thick or curly hair may require higher heat.
4. Begin straightening about one inch from the roots, using one hand to hold each section and the other to clamp and smooth the straightener through your hair.
5. Finish with a styling product such as a serum or oil to add shine or hairspray to hold hair in place.

My New Moroccanoil Titanium Flat Iron Review.

For starters, it definitely delivered on the efficiency front.
It didn’t take long for the titanium plates to heat up and they stayed consistently hot throughout use.
This was a BIG win for me, especially as someone who tends to snooze their alarm one too many times in the morning.
The extra-long plates meant I could achieve a salon-worthy look in less than five minutes (now that’s worth getting out of bed for).
It also delivered on its promise of shiny, sleek hair. I’m putting this down to their use of titanium plates over ceramic which has been known to cause frizz.
Side note: I also tested using the
MOROCCANOIL Perfect Defence 225ml versus no heat protector at all - for argument’s sake, of course - and can genuinely say it made a difference.
With Moroccanoil's Perfect Defence, my hair felt healthier, more hydrated and stayed that way throughout the rest of the day.
On the functionality side of things, the Moroccanoil hair straightener's swivel cord, digital temperature display, and lightweight build made it super easy to use.
The only real con I had with the straightener is its colour.
Being a monochrome-clad gal, I’m not that fussed about the blue (don’t h8 me). But perhaps I’ve just lived in Melbourne too long…
P.s. I also used the flat iron to create soft curls which you can
watch in the tutorial below.
P.s.s. for barrel curls, check out the new
MOROCCANOIL Curling Iron.
Final Thoughts.
So, what’s my verdict on the new Moroccanoil flat iron?
As someone with short and finer hair, I think the flat iron is better suited to those with thick or curly hair.
But all in all, it's a great choice for those looking for a hair straightener that’s quick and easy to use.
