You know what I love? Nineties makeup and hairstyles having a glorious comeback.
Notably, '90s up-dos that are giving us long (and thick) haired girlies a lot more options to keep our hairstyles chic and fresh and even better - easy, hot weather hairstyles.
A few years ago, my go-to “going out for dinner” hair look would never include a messy plait or, dare I say it, a claw clip—something I’d never dream of wearing in public back then. (Yes, believe it or not, claw clips were once considered very uncool).
Well I sure as heck am glad claw clips are still a “thing” because they’re the one accessory my hair simply can’t function without. They keep my long hair and all my secrets securely stored all day.
Now admittedly, when I first brainstormed this article, my hair was longer.
I've recently had a healthy trim, but these are the same easy hairstyles for long hair I did when my hair had more length too.
If you want easy shoulder length hairstyles (where my hair is just below now), some of these work for you too!
Best of all? These effortless looks are ideal for peak summer days when humidity and high-maintenance styles simply don’t mix.
AND, they truly require minimal effort.
Instant Half Up, Half Down Hair With a Claw Clip.

Long-haired friends you may have forgotten the staying power these little guys hold!
Claw clips are to long-haired gals what bobby pins are to short-haired babes: the MVPs of “I can’t deal with this right now” hair days.
Before claw clips came back into style, mine were strictly on house arrest. I wouldn’t dream of wearing one out in fear of looking “daggy” or "lazy".
Fast forward to now, and not only are claw clips back, but they’re actually on-trend.
These days, I use claw clips to style my hair in all sorts of ways, but the “dressiest” of them all? The classic half-up, half-down look.
Probably one of the most EASIEST simple hairstyles for long hair while still delivering an effortlessly chic result.
Pre-styled hair is ideal for this one as it makes the front wispy bits flow down the face much nicer.
In the above pic, I had washed and styled my hair with soft waves the day before.
If you have long hair but it’s fine, I suggest adding some body with a volumising hair product like the
O&M Desert Dry Volumising Dry Texture Spray and then some hold spray (try
Davines MORE INSIDE Strong Hold Hair Spray 400g) at the roots before lightly teasing for added lift.
Then, let the two front sections of your hair free fall naturally, section off the top half, and secure it with your claw clip.
And voilà - a look that’s equal parts easy and glam.
If you’re searching for ‘hair styles long layers’ - this one would look great on you.

A Loose, Messy Plait.

I’d completely forgotten about the humble plait - until now. Let's add this one to the 'summer hairstyles long hair' list.
The last time I spotted low braid as a trend, or considered "fashionable" was on the runways over a decade ago when fishtail plaits were having their moment (remember those?)
After weeks of alternating between hair out and wavy, updos and sleek buns, I was running out of hairdos for long hair that wasn’t just the typical three ways I always style it.
I decided a loose, messy, semi-undone plait would pair perfectly with my summer linen seashell dinner outfit. Even more fitting as I was having dinner by the beach.
For extra grit, try a texturising spray (we’ve done a whole
Beauty IQ article on some great options here).
The only thing I needed to complete this look was my
MCoBeauty Hair & Brow Magic Wand - the flyaways were peaking for me that day and it was ruining the whole vibe until with one magic stroke of this wand - all the frizz was instantly tamed.
When it comes to easy hairstyles, this is takes the cake.
Updo Right Out Of the Shower.

Hairstyles for hot weather? This is the easy, cute hairstyle that's perfect for summer.
While the sleeked back updo dominated the last couple of years, I used to save this style for greasy hair days only. But last week, I found myself rocking it three nights in a row - straight out of the shower with wet hair.
Let me explain…
If you’re still on holiday (jealous) or planning a Euro summer packed with beach days, you’ll know the struggle: minimal time between day adventures and dinner, especially if you have long hair. A blowout? Forget it.
We don't have an hour to style it from wet to dry (I wonder if others understand our struggle).
Last week while on holidays I washed my hair nearly every night after coming home from the beach and having a dinner booked less than an hour later.
So straight out of the shower (actually backtrack, in the shower, I popped on my
K18 conditioner which helps sleek my strands a little first) I combed my hair into a ponytail and wrapped the pony into a bun.
I then smoothed everything down with my trusty
ELEVEN Australia Miracle Hair Mask 200mlwhich not only helps slick down my hair and tames my frizz - my hair is also getting nourishment after a day in salty ocean water.
I then sleeked over again with one of my favourite and best hair products under $50 - the
Disco Stick Hair Wax Stick which I find also does a great job at flattening those pesky frizzy baby hairs. I also love that it's super travel-friendly (it always comes with me on holiday).
Then a final spritz of the
VIRTUE Flourish Density Booster 120ml to the front areas to prevent tension and minimise hair thinning (that episode of the Kardashians where Kourtney gets a bald spot from her tight ponytail will forever haunt me).
No fuss, no heat, no time wasted - just an effortlessly chic updo.
A Cute Headband Isn’t Just for GRWM Videos.

Finally, a reminder that a cute headband isn't just for GRWM videos.
The above picture of my lovely colleague Em inspired me to add one to cart for an instant long hairstyle that literally requires zero effort and instantly makes you dinner, brunch or anything-you-need-to look-cute for-ready.
Lucky for you (and me) I can add this
Kitsch Recycled Fabric Puffy Headband 1pc- Blackunder $20 headband to cart right now.
