Bondi Boost Infrared Brush Review: Can Confirm This $180 Hot Brush Is Worth the Hype

Nikki is a writer, former makeup artist, and Communications Specialist at Adore Beauty. She kicked off her writing career at Fashion Journal, penning beauty articles and interviewing musicians she’d still name-drop seven years later. In 2023, she made a very big and bold career leap (writing about fashion instead of beauty). Now, she’s come full circle – but still loves to think outside the box.

I left my ghd straightener in a hostel in Switzerland when I was twenty-two and foolishly, quickly bought another, then donated it to my mum who used it more than me.
After a big breakup a few years later, I treated myself to an expensive *air tool* (yep, that one) to replace the lot.
Not to get all life-story-before-the-recipe on you – I promise a review is coming!
I don’t own a straightener or curling iron now, ‘cause bang for your buck, but I’m aware of the limitations of an air-powered tool. Mostly that it takes around 45 minutes to style my hair from wet to dry, sans the shower time and optional add-ons (rollers to set the hair, many sprays of KEVIN.MURPHY’s DOO.OVER, deep breaths).
You can’t break it up into segments either. Once you wash your hair, you’re committed to a night of drying and lifting and twisting and watching Sex And The City on your iPad in the bathroom.
So, I’m pretty open to new hair tech that promises to keep styling time minimal, or at the very least, make the process less taxing on my arms.
Enter: Bondi Boost’s Infrared Thermal Bounce Brush...

What Is the Bondi Boost Infrared Bounce Brush?

Key features of the Bondi Boost Infrared Bounce Brush:
  • A $180 hot round brush designed for dry hair only.
  • As the name suggests, this brush uses infrared technology to gently heat your hair from the inside, causing less damage.
  • Its bristles are also infused with aloe to leave your hair super smooth and shiny.
  • Promises to deliver salon-worthy blowouts fast.
  • Reduces frizz with negative ion technology.
  • Cool tip for safe styling.

My Bondi Boost Thermal Brush Review

We know I love a good blowout (and if you don’t, now you do). But since I’m working with frizzy curls, I am (well, was) a dry-to-styled hot brush skeptic.
Achieving a sleek, kink-free blowout on my natural texture seemed like too big of a feat. TikTok-viral tool or not.
Still, I put it to the test.
THE PREP:
If you’re used to the noisy, sweaty, heavy ordeal of a blowout tool, this one feels like a breath of fresh air – minus the actual air.
First off, the Bondi Boost Infrared Thermal Brush is super lightweight, which makes it easy to maneuver through your hair, even on the dreaded other side.
The actual styling part was fairly intuitive for me, though I don’t think there would be a big learning curve for anyone new to using a tool like this.
I ran the brush through medium-sized sections 2–3 times relatively slowly, angling it down and twisting away from my face, before letting the hair drop into a loose curl.
Depending on your hair’s texture, you could easily brush it through once and see sleek results.
A few online tutorials mention holding the brush at the ends of your hair for a few seconds, but I’m impatient and fidgety and forgetful (hope that backpacker in Switzerland is enjoying their free ghd). Plus, I prefer a bit more of a curl, so twisting the brush worked well regardless.
I do wish the power button was slightly lower, ‘cause I kept accidently pressing it, but the brush auto-locks to prevent it from turning off midway through styling, so it’s more of a slight annoyance than an actual hindrance.

Final Verdict:

Overall, I’m really impressed, and buzzing at the potential of letting my hair air dry into a big, soft mop and still being able to fake a blowout the next day.
Less heat and less damage? My curls like the sound of that too.
