Well, my friends. Kris Jenner works hard, but Mattel works harder.
You’d have to have been living under a rock to have missed the Barbiemania that’s taken over the internet (and our lives) for months now.
Perhaps I’m just deep in the Barbie Dreamhouse algorithm, but since the announcement of the upcoming film, it seems the whole world has turned pink in anticipation.
There's Barbie rollerskates, Barbie electric toothbrushes, Barbie pool floaties; Heck, even Grill’d have jumped on the hot-pink bandwagon with their “Barbie Dreamburger”.
(Which, yes, I will be buying.)
And while I wouldn't really consider myself a “Barbie Girl”, director Greta Gerwig’s modern take on plastic-fantastic ‘verse is enough to make any ‘90s baby let out an audible squeal.
So when I heard that we too would soon receive limited-edition Barbie merch, let’s just say my excitement was palpable over Zoom, on mute.
To such a degree that I barely had a chance to pitch a Barbiecore article before our Senior Beauty Editor Sadaf asked me if I wanted to cover the pretty-in-pink trend.
So, come on Barbie(s). Let’s go party.
Scroll on for everything you need about the four new products plus two Barbie Doll-inspired hairstyles.
(P.s. there
was a Barbie Glasshouse Candle too, but she's already been snapped up! If sweet scents are your thing though, check out
A Tahaa Affair or the limited-edition
Pretty in Pink candle by Glasshouse.)
Mermade Hair Barbie Blowout & Wave Kits.

Fast facts:
The
Mermade Hair Barbie Blowout Kit is here to make your bouncy '90s Barbie blowout dreams come true.
The limited edition kit includes a wet-to-dry blow-dry brush, sparkly pink no-crease clips, a silky Zebra print head scarf and hair gems.
The lightweight, oval-shaped brush features a 60mm barrel for better curves and more volume, flexible bristles and a slim grip handle with the Barbie insignia.
It has three heat settings to suit different hair lengths and uses ionic technology to help seal the hair cuticle, protect the follicle, create shine, reduce frizz and curb flyaways.
My Mermade Hair Barbie Blowout Kit review:

I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a blow-dry brush for a while now, having watched beauty lovers on TikTok create the most gorgeous, bouncy blowouts with them.
Determined to do the same, I road-tested the Mermade brush on both dry and wet hair to see which of the two worked better, and I have some thoughts.
Let’s start with the things I loved.
Its lightweight design, simple functionality and two-in-one capability get a big tick from me. I’m a bit of a baby when it comes to heavy hot tools, so (my bird arms and) I appreciated how easy and fast it was to use the Mermade Brush.
In terms of styling dry or wet hair, I think it works better on the latter as you’re starting with a blank canvas so-to-speak rather than trying to rework an existing look as I did.
I found it took a little longer to smooth the waves in my dry hair and that I still needed to run my hair straightener through the mid-lengths. Something to consider if you have curly hair.
I also think it would work better on long and thick hair as you’ve got more to work with and can play around with the bouncy look, whereas my shoulder-length hair, while it looked voluminous, just didn’t pack the same punch I had hoped for.
In hindsight, I think a couple of rollers would've helped hold the voluminous curls in shape for longer. Noted for next time!
All in all, though, the Mermade Hair Barbie Blowout Kit is a fun and fast way to style your hair and would make for a cute present, too!

Fast facts:
The
Mermade Hair Barbie Wave Kit is inspired by the iconic 1990s mermaid Barbie, designed to help you create voluminous, bouncy waves.
Like the blow-dry brush, the wave kit comes with the hot tool plus a set of sparkly pink no-crease clips, a Zebra head scarf and hair gems.
It has multiple heat settings to suit different hair lengths and features a long, 2.5m swivel cord and an auto-shut-off function after one hour for peace of mind.
It uses advanced 25mm ceramic barrels to protect your hair from unnecessary damage and help seal cuticles, infuse moisture, eliminate frizz and create shine.
My Mermade Hair Barbie Wave Kit review:

Man, am I happy to see wavers re-enter the mainstay.
A crimpy hair stan from way back, I remember the day I got mine like it was yesterday. I had basically begged my mum for months before finally striking a deal to stop biting my nails in exchange for the mermaid hair of my dreams.
(Which, spoiler alert: I only managed to do long enough for the waver to arrive… hence my love of fake nails today, hehe.)
To my inner child’s delight, the Barbie Wave Kit is exactly as I remembered.
It’s so simple to use and only took about 10 minutes to turn my short, straight hair into smooth, sleek waves.
The different heat settings make it easy to achieve different looks, whether you’re aiming for a lived-in look or more polished waves. And the countdown timer makes it easy to know when the waver is ready to use.
Like the blowout kit, my short-haired friends would probably benefit from a smaller barrel for more precise waves, but with some practice, the one included does the trick just fine!
OPI Barbie Nail Lacquer Sets.

Fast facts:
OPI BARBIE - TRIO Set includes three exclusive Barbie-inspired nail polish shades:
Hi Barbie! - Hot pink crème nail polish.
Bon Voyage to Reality! - Nude crème nail polish.
Every Night is Girls Night - Iridescent glitter nail polish.,
It's formulated using OPI’s signature formula to allow up to 7 days of glossy, chip-free wear.
AB staffer Maddy was kind enough to lend me her nails (above), here’s her review of the polishes:
“The hot pink is the perfect Barbie pink!
The light pink is very milky so definitely requires a few coats - not my favourite.
But the sparkly polish more than made up for it - it was surprisingly thick and deposited a good amount of glitter!
I've used glitter polish in the past that only deposits a few specs of glitter, but this one is high quality.”

Fast facts:
OPI BARBIE - DUO Set includes two pretty-in-pink nail polish shades:
Best Day Ever - Pink glitter nail polish.
Feel the Magic! - Deep pink crème nail polish.
Like the trio, the formula of the duo set is the same as OPI’s regular polish, enabling up to 7 days of glossy, chip-free wear.
My OPI Barbie Duo Set review:
Since I'm currently rocking SNS on my hands, I put these nail polishes to the test on my toes to give you the tea.
However, I must admit, I have a bit of an aversion to feet, so I won't be showing you mine (ew). You'll just have to take my word for it.
While I typically lean toward more understated and muted shades, there's something undeniably fun about these colours.
They take me back to my childhood days of painting my nails when the only polishes I had to choose from were my mum's 55 thousand shades of pink.
Both of these nail polishes complement each other well and could be easily used together to create a range of looks.
If I had to choose a favourite between the two, I'd go with Best Day Ever. While Feel the Magic! has great pigmentation and applies smoothly, the lighter, sparkly pink shade looks better against my fair skin.
You’ll need two or three coats of Best Day Ever for a solid base, but you could also layer it over a richer base for a cute sparkly moment (like I did above!).
* Update! Barbie fans, you guys love your merch! Sadly, the duo is sold out but don't worry you can still get both
OPI BARBIE Nail Lacquer shades individually!
