M.A.C makeup is so good that it once made me cry.
Let me explain…
A few years ago, I brought my brand spanking new bottle of
M.A.C COSMETICS Studio Radiance Face & Body Radiant Sheer Foundation with me on holidays and accidentally put it in my carry-on luggage.
I was stopped at airport security, and my heart skipped a beat as they rifled through my luggage.
Oh no… There it was… My 120ml bottle of M.A.C foundation. A measly 20ml over the liquid limit! Ughhh.
I watched the airport security man toss it in the bin, along with the water bottles and cigarette lighters. I sulked away to my terminal with tears running down my face.
Yes, that’s right. I cried.
M.A.C Cosmetics are the masters of makeup.
I’ve been using their products since my teens. I think I still have a 10-year-old Morange lipstick in my drawer. And their
M.A.C Cosmetics Strobe Cream… Ooft! It’s the definition of ‘lit-from-within’.
So when M.A.C recently launched a new skincare range, I was intrigued.
The range promises to help improve skin texture and hydrate the skin.
And, because it’s M.A.C, you know it’s going to give you that luminous glow and play nicely with your makeup.
Keep reading for my mini reviews on the M.A.C Cosmetics Hyper Real skincare line as well as how I use these three hero products in my routine.
What Is MAC Cosmetics Hyper Real?

MAC’s Hyper Real range was formulated to improve your skin and enhance your makeup.
The products are packed with skincare ingredients we all know and love, like niacinamide, ceramides, AHAs and hyaluronic acid.
But they also have the added benefit of ultra-fine, light-diffusing pearlescent particles to give you an instant glow.
The Hyper Real range is also formulated with Japanese peony extract.
Fun fact: this rare flower blooms for seven to ten days from the middle of May to the middle of June, after surviving a winter of heavy snowfall.
This rare extract helps to increase radiance and even out skin tone over time.
The range has three steps, which you can either use as a standalone skincare routine or as skin prep before applying your makeup.
Step 1: Hyper Real Fresh Canvas Cleansing Oil.

Fast facts:
A gentle cleansing oil to remove long-wearing and waterproof makeup, pollutants and micro-dust.
Formulated with Japanese peony extract, jojoba, sunflower seed oils and Vitamin E.
Helps to maintain the skin’s moisture balance.
Safe for sensitive skin and eyes.
Non-greasy and rinses off easily.
My Hyper Real Fresh Canvas Cleansing Oil Review:
I’ve used a lot of cleansing oils in my time, and this one was super lightweight compared to others I’ve tried.
When you jiggle the bottle around, you can see it almost looks like water.
This formula would be great for all skin types, even oily skin like mine - it’s not going to clog pores, which can cause breakouts.
You’ll need two to three pumps, and don’t forget to always use a cleansing oil on dry skin.
The pump bottle is also great because it locks, which makes it travel-friendly.
2. M.A.C Cosmetics Hyper Real Serumizer.

Fast facts:
The key active ingredients in the MAC hyper real serumizer are niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, AHAs and BHAs. Also contains Japanese peony extract.
These ingredients work together to gently exfoliate, improve texture, strengthen the skin barrier, reduce the appearance of pores and hydrate the skin.
It’s also infused with a blend of ultra-fine, light-diffusing pearlescent particles.
It will keep makeup looking fresh for 12 hours.
My M.A.C Cosmetics Hyper Real Serumizer Review:
I LOVE this serum.
What's great is you can wear this serum without makeup and it leaves skin with a beautiful, natural glow.
I actually had people asking what I was wearing on my face when I had it on.
It has a subtle luminosity that works well alone, or under makeup.
I’m also a big fan of all the key ingredients and would absolutely use this as my daily morning serum.
It’s got a silky texture, a subtle scent and it isn’t tacky or sticky, which is why it works so nicely with makeup.
3. M.A.C Cosmetics Hyper Real Skincanvas Balm.

Fast facts:
A lightweight, non-greasy moisturiser.
The key ingredients are Japanese peony extract, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramides and mango and avocado butters.
It’s a non-pilling formula so you can use it as a makeup base.
It keeps makeup looking fresh for 12 hours.
My M.A.C Cosmetics Hyper Real Skincanvas Balm Review:
My favourite part about this moisturiser is that it doesn’t pill under makeup and creates an ultra-hydrated base.
However, I wouldn’t really call it a ‘balm’ as it’s not thick or heavy.
I can definitely use it with my oilier skin. It really does create the perfect canvas to apply your makeup.
I tried the moisturiser with and without the serum underneath, and you can see a more luminous finish using both together.
Final Verdict...

You will absolutely love this range if you wear makeup most days and want a skincare range that creates a luminous base (as you can see in the picture above), whilst also improving texture, reducing the appearance of pores, providing hydration and strengthening your skin barrier.
If I had to choose one product from the range, the serum is my absolute fave.
I’m already using it most mornings.
I can see my skin just has that extra luminosity and hydration after using it.
I’m really not surprised M.A.C has created a skincare range that perfectly compliments your makeup routine.
You just can’t beat that M.A.C lit-from-within look!
And finally...
The most important part: The serum is 30ml, so you won’t have any trouble at airport security.
